Burlington Free Food Map: Connecting Our Community to Food Resources
Increasing our community’s access to food is a fundamental piece of building a healthier, more resilient food system. Achieving food security in Vermont is possible and improving local charitable food access is just one piece of the puzzle — full food security will require thriving farms and markets, climate-resilient agriculture, and support from policymakers, towns, and communities. While the Intervale Center's Fair Share program helps feed up to 300 families weekly throughout the summer, we recognize that no single program can fully address our community's food security needs.
That's why we're excited to share our newly updated Burlington Free Food Map – a comprehensive resource that consolidates information about free food access points (categorized by pantries, hot meals, and produce) in the Burlington area. This initiative aligns with our broader mission to strengthen community food systems that sustain farms, land, and people across Vermont.
The map is available in two formats to serve different needs. Our online Google Maps version provides a comprehensive, regularly updated list of free food locations and resources for Chittenden County (including information on resources like warming shelters and cooling centers). The online platform is compatible with Google Maps direction services, allowing community members to find the services that work best for their location. Recognizing that the online platform may not be accessible for all, our printable map highlights 24 reliable locations to access food for community members who prefer or require physical resources. By mapping these resources, we aim to help community members better navigate and combine various food access opportunities to support their needs.
Have you noticed a free food resource that isn't included on our map? We're constantly working to make this tool more comprehensive and accurate. Please share your feedback or submissions with our team at freefood@intervale.org.
Together, we can build a more food-secure Vermont.
