love spending time at the interVale?
Volunteers are at the heart of the Intervale Center’s work. Across our wide-ranging efforts to sustain farms, land, and people, volunteers help strengthen local food systems by growing and distributing fresh food, restoring native habitat, and caring for the shared spaces that connect our community to the land. Whether you join us once or volunteer regularly, your time makes a meaningful difference and helps us cultivate an equitable and sustainable food system for all.
Are you a City Market Co-op member? If you volunteer for 4 hours at the Intervale Center, you can receive a 12% monthly discount! Learn more here.
Groups
At the Intervale Center, we provide meaningful, fun, and well-organized volunteer opportunities that allow groups to engage in their community food system in tangible ways.
Volunteer activities are led by knowledgeable, experienced program staff that orient and support each volunteer group throughout the day.

On going Volunteer Needs
Gleaning & Food Access – Ensure food reaches the community! We need weekly assistance in packing and distributing fresh produce for Fair Share, our free, CSA-style, produce pick-up.
Weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays through July, then Weekly on Mondays from July-October
The People's Farm – Join our volunteer-powered farm effort to grow food for the community! Produce is grown for our free CSA-style produce pick-up: Fair Share. And it is a fun and welcoming space for all to learn about agricultural processes.
Weekly on Thursday evenings through July
Conservation Nursery – This time of year, much of the Intervale Conservation Nursery staff are away from the Intervale: planting trees or collecting seed across the state. We need your help to keep operations running smoothly in our greenhouse and fields! Tend to native saplings, trees, and shrubs while learning hands-on forestry skills.
Weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Friday mornings
Land Stewardship – Help care for trails, remove invasive species, or support the People's Orchard, the food forest growing fresh fruit and berries for our community.
Become a Trail Steward! We partner with Burlington Wildways to keep our trail system clean and cared for.
Interested in supporting our Community Food Forest? Join the People's Orchard Mailing List. We need volunteers who are willing to participate in on-call harvesting so that the People's Orchard fruit can then be distributed to the community - for free!
