Access to secure, high-quality farmland is the number one barrier beginning farmers face today. Soaring land prices, development pressures, climate threats and lack of capital prevent the next generation of Vermont farmers from finding quality, affordable farmland. Black, Indigenous, other farmers of color, women, and LGBTQ+ farmers especially experience these challenges and their ties to structural racism and discrimination.

As our core Vermont farmers age, our one million acres of farmland will be changing hands.

We see this as an opportunity to help support farm viability and transition and help protect farmland for future producers. In doing so, we help farmers navigate the challenges of accessing land.

Our team can work with you to:

  • Identify appropriate, affordable and secure land tenure

  • Develop farm business plans for land access

  • Evaluate financing options

  • Support land agreement negotiations and farm transfers

  • Create farmer profiles and search Vermont Land Link listings

  • Work in partnership with Vermont Land Trust’s Farmland Access Program

  • Connect to additional land access resources
