Jessica Sanford
Jessica came to Vermont to attend the University of Vermont, ski and to be close to the mountains. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and after several years of working as the Produce Buyer and Manager at Healthy Living she attended Graduate School at Antioch University New England in Keene, NH. She graduated with a Masters in Science and Masters in Education with a concentration in experiential education and community engagement. And though she grew up farming, it was during grad school that she focused her efforts on farm-based education in higher education. After grad school, she returned to Burlington to work at the Intervale Center with the Healthy City Youth Farm and to farm at Intervale Community Farm. In addition to her work in the fields she also taught food systems based classes at UVM and at Antioch University New England where she traveled with students to study the food system and farms of Cuba. She returned to the Intervale Center to work with the Intervale Food Hub and eventually transitioned to managing the Gleaning and Food Access Program. Today she manages Adam’s Berry Farm with her partner Adam Hausmann in Charlotte, Vermont where they strive to grow as many berries as possible and create a place where people can connect with food, farms and community. Jessica also serves on the Board of the Charlotte Land Trust and works the UVM Farmer Training Program. She is thrilled to be back at the Intervale Center, working to help strengthen the Vermont food system.
