Support the Milkweed Home Pilot Project!

Climate refuge means more than having resources - it means building the social fabric, alternative systems, and networks of care and repair that center frontline communities already most impacted by climate change and welcome those yet to come.” - Community Resilience Organizations

Vermont is projected to maintain stable living conditions, including those necessary to grow food, over the next 30-50 years when many parts of the U.S will be experiencing more harmful impacts of climate change. As Vermonters, it’s our responsibility to build climate refuge for marginalized communities who are already disproportionately impacted. You can help by supporting projects that prioritize land equity, climate, and racial justice, including the Milkweed Home Pilot Project.

This project will provide secure housing for a BIPOC elder on land in the Northeast Kingdom and serve as an educational opportunity for a Black, trans community member seeking to gain trade skills in an otherwise cis-male dominated field. The project is seeking $12,000 for a two-week home build in which this community member and a project lead will be compensated to construct a home this summer.

This pilot will create a replicable framework for future skill-sharing projects that can also increase land and housing access for marginalized community members.

Support housing, education, and climate resilience for these (and future!) community members by sharing this post and/or donating to Community Resilience Organizations on their website or by mail with Milkweed Pilot Project in the memo line:
