Moira Smiley at Summervale!
By: Kally Sample, Music Intern
Summervale continues this week with the next fabulous artist in our lineup, singer & composer Moira Smiley! Smiley says she started getting into music early, singing to the cows on her parents farm, playing Bach and Chopin on the piano, and making up songs while hanging out in trees. Her favorite career moments have included singing at Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks Amphitheater, and leading 10,000 singers in the singing of her own song, ‘Stand in That River’.
Moira has performed both as a solo artist and with groups, having toured with “tUnE-yArDs, Irish super-group, Solas, the pioneering Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project, multi-grammy winner, Billy Childs’ “Laura Nyro Re-Imagined” and with Paul Hillier, KITKA, on BBC TV and Radio, npr, and PBS”. Smiley says her favorite part about music as it relates to community is the participation and communal amplifying of the joy she feels when “inside” music. She accompanies herself on banjo, accordion, piano and percussive movement. Smiley would describe her musical style as vocal, delicate, and fierce.
Moira Smiley is joined by Young Traditions VT with a showcase. The Slow Food Vermont tasting is natural sweeteners, and City Market’s make it from scratch activity is Grapefruit Body Scrub. Join us this Thursday for a beautiful summer evening with Moira Smiley!
