March at the Intervale Center
The Intervale Center is proud of the progress our team made last year to strengthen community food systems that sustain Vermont’s farms, land, and people. Thank you for being on this journey with us to build tomorrow’s food system! Check out the Intervale Center's 2024 Impact Report and learn about our work across the state. Read on to learn about the work we're doing this spring!
Farms
The Intervale Center is proudly partnering with other farming organizations across Vermont to champion a state Farm Security Fund. This fund will create an at-the-ready pool of $20 million to provide immediate assistance to farmers impacted by extreme weather events.
We all rely on farms, and we are all responsible for supporting farmers as they face increased climate instability, particularly as Vermont’s farms are left out of federal programs designed to stabilize agriculture in times of crisis.
The fund passed unanimously out of the Senate Committee on Agriculture! It now moves to review by the full Senate this week. Learn more in this informative video from Baird Farm here and stand with Vermont’s farmers here.
Land
Did you know that 47 different species of bee have been identified in the Intervale? The Intervale Center has partnered with Audubon Vermont and the Gund Institute for Environment at the University of Vermont to create recommendations for bird and pollinator friendly management within the 360 acres of land managed by the Intervale Center. Learn more about how we steward our land to promote bird and pollinator habitat in this blog post written by UVM student Olivia Conti.
Check out the latest Riparian Lands Native Seed Partnership Newsletter! Our Seed Coordinator, Brooke Fleischman, partners with many different organizations across the state to meet the demand for local native seeds - even in the winter! This issue highlights some winter events, seed collections, and upcoming events.
People
Volunteer season is approaching at The People’s Farm and Garden!
