8/4 Summervale: Mal Maiz
By Brenna Lewis-Slammon, Summervale Music Intern
This week, Summervale at the Intervale is sure to be poppin’ as we will be joined by the local, hot Latin dance band, Mal Maiz. Come prepared to move and groove. Led by Maiz Vargas Sandoval, self-referenced as a “Costa Rican gypsy devil”, the band brings a blissful fusion of South American cumbia influences to the stages of Burlington, VT. Their sound is both exotic -- transporting its listener to foreign places South of the border -- and right at home in the heart of the funky and eclectic Burlington music scene.
Every rhythm is intoxicating with the dramas of a Summer evening -- the heat of the day and the heat of the music are sure to envive our assembled crowd. With Mal Maiz, dancing is contagious, an intrinsic reality, as even the most hesitant onlookers are overcome with an urge to tap a foot, sway their hips, and nod their heads. Best known around town for their month-long residencies at Radio Bean, the group’s music is truly a celebration -- every note, rhythm, and move that the band inspires is driven towards a passion for life. For this upcoming month of August, Mal Maiz will be playing every Monday night at Radio Bean to help the good folks of BVT kick their final weeks of Summer off right. Mal Maiz’s music has the power to transform an average August evening into a true experience. Come -- listen, dance, and lose yourself in their musical stories, vibrant rhythms, and veracious personalities. You may even pick up some new dance moves along the way!
